🧠 TRIVIA RECAP + THURSDAY SPECIALS 🍕🍺

What. A. Night.

Troutasaurus has now reeled in their fourth trivia night win in a row. We’re not saying they’re unstoppable… but if they win again, we might need to start checking for hidden earpieces or a neural link to Wikipedia. 👀📚💡
(We’re kidding, “Trout Thesaurus”—we love you.)

The competition was sharp, the debates were spirited (we still don’t want to talk about the tomato thing), and the taproom was absolutely buzzing.

🎤 Huge thanks to Judd, our trivia MC and part-time chaos coordinator, for another smooth, hilarious night. And to our whole Hoppy Trout crew—y’all crushed it, as always.

Let’s get to the brass tax….

‼️ THURSDAY = $10 CHEESE PIZZAS + $1 OFF PINTS ‼️
Doors open at 12PM—come hungry, come thirsty.
Yes, pineapple is allowed. No, we’re not starting that debate again.

🍺 And while we’re not naming names (this time), we do have some amazing beers on the board right now that you won’t want to miss. Come see what’s pouring—you just might find your new favorite.

Swing by, raise a slice to our reigning trivia titans, and toast to this amazing little mountain town we get to call home. 💙

See you soon for the best deal in the WNC!

Western NC to Host 13th Annual Elder Abuse Awareness Walk on June 16

Western North Carolina communities will come together on Monday, June 16 for the 13th Annual Elder Abuse Awareness Walk, themed “Walk in Their Shoes.” The event aims to raise awareness about elder abuse and show support for victims across the region.

The walk is happening in seven Western NC counties and on the Qualla Boundary, with times varying by location. Participants are encouraged to wear purple, walk with their neighbors, and stand up for the dignity and respect of older adults.

This year’s message is simple: Walk locally. Unite regionally. Every step counts in the fight to protect and honor our elders.

A Refreshing Update from One of Our Chamber Members!

At the Andrews NC Chamber of Commerce, we’re proud to support all our member businesses, big and small. When they invest in our town, we believe it’s worth sharing. That’s why we’re happy to spotlight one of our lodging members that’s been making waves this summer—literally.

The Quality Inn of Andrews has officially opened their salt water pool, just in time for the summer heat. With beautiful mountain views as your backdrop, it’s a relaxing spot whether you’re traveling for business, vacation, or family gatherings. The crisp, clean saltwater is an added touch that makes your stay even more enjoyable.

But it doesn’t stop there—behind the scenes, the team has been hard at work on significant property improvements. From a major second-floor renovation project to an upgraded pool filtration system, they’ve taken extra steps to ensure guest comfort and safety. These enhancements reflect a strong commitment to hospitality, and we’re grateful to have them as part of the Andrews business community.

So whether you’re a visitor exploring our scenic town or a local looking to recommend a great place to stay, the Quality Inn is ready to welcome you.

🛏️ 50 rooms with amenities like refrigerators, microwaves, and laundry

🏊‍♂️ Freshly opened saltwater pool

🛠️ Ongoing improvements to enhance every stay

We invite you to stop by, stay a while, and see the progress for yourself. Supporting our chamber members supports the whole community.

TRIVIA NIGHT: WHERE CONFIDENCE GOES TO DIE

TONIGHT @ 6:30 PM at The Hoppy Trout 🍕🍺🐟

Kam’s brain-busting questions are back—yes, the ones that make you question your GPA, your pride, and whether you’ve ever actually learned anything.

But there’s good news: she’s not hosting tonight. Someone else will be up there sweating through words like archaeoastronomy and bobsledding history.

Meanwhile, our trivia raccoon has caught wind that KAM IS MAKING GIFT CARDS FOR THE WINNERS, and he looks like he just discovered a dumpster full of pizza rolls.

(You should be that excited too. There are PRIZES now. Real ones.)

Expect:

🍕 Brick oven pizza hotter than your debate over how many oceans there are

🍺 Craft beer cold enough to cool your trivia-fueled rage

🧠 Questions harder than figuring out how to fold a fitted sheet

Bring your smartest friends—or just the loudest. Confidence counts.

(Just ask Todd, who once insisted Mount Rushmore was in “South Dakota adjacent.”)

💡 Bonus fun:

• Wild guesses with big energy

• Whisper-yelling about geography

• A raccoon-level frenzy over those new gift cards 🥇

🕛 Open at NOON

🕡 Trivia starts 6:30 PM sharp

👥 Teams of 6 max (or go solo if you’re feeling wild)

🎁 Win prizes. Earn glory. Maybe cry a little. All part of the fun.

Come see us at The Hoppy Trout — where Kam writes the questions, you get hyped, and by Round 3, your brain has legally checked out.

See you soon!!!

Tonight! The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office is inviting the public to a crucial meeting on Tuesday, June 3, at 6:00 p.m. at Tri-County Community College’s McSwain Lecture Hall. This is your opportunity to directly contribute to a major effort aimed at improving local law enforcement services and strengthening community trust.

The Sheriff's Office has partnered with the U.S. Department of Justice for a full self-assessment, a process that began last April. This thorough review is being guided by the Bureau of Justice Assistance’s National Training and Technical Assistance Center (NTTAC), an organization that connects law enforcement agencies nationwide with top public safety and criminal justice experts. Their goal is to help agencies reduce crime, support law enforcement, improve the supervision of individuals in the justice system, and assist victims.

As part of this assessment, NTTAC has brought in two nationally recognized consultants. These experts will be in Cherokee County, observing daily operations and interviewing members of the Sheriff’s Office, local law enforcement, the District Attorney’s Office, Community Corrections, and other key partners.

However, a vital component of this entire process is hearing directly from the community. The Sheriff’s Office emphasizes that your input is essential. Attending the meeting on June 3 is your chance to share your concerns, ideas, and experiences, which will directly help shape a stronger, more responsive department for everyone in Cherokee County.

Hoppy Hour, Magic, Music, and Family Moments

The skies over Andrews can’t decide if it’s beach weather or monsoon season. ☀️🌧️ One minute it’s bright and breezy, the next it’s muttering thunder under its breath. But while the forecast flips a coin, one thing stays steady—Hoppy Hour at Hoppy Trout Brewing Company!

🔥 From 2 to 5 PM, enjoy 20% off all our brick oven apps, including:

  • Jalapeño poppers, roasted low and slow for that perfect bite
  • A split-top pretzel paired with real beer cheese (yes, the kind that earns your trust and never lets go)

🎩 TOMORROW (Saturday) from 12 to 3 PM, magician Nathan from America’s Got Talent will be making his way table to table. Prepare to be amazed—and maybe lose your dessert in the most delightful way.

🎶 Then from 5 to 8 PM, Old Souls takes the stage. One of the most talked-about bands in the region, they deliver the kind of sound that sticks with you long after the music stops.

As for Kam and me, we’re soaking up some family time—celebrating our granddaughter’s 2nd birthday with all three of our kids in town. 💕 But the Hoppy Trout team is here and ready to serve, just like always.

🚧 And yes—The Blue Stage is moving right along! Swing by, take a peek, and watch as we build something new for our community. Better pizza might just bring better weather… and either way, we’re testing the theory.

Come hungry. Come curious. We’ll see you soon—rain or shine.

Public Meeting Announcement: Help Shape the Future of Local Law Enforcement

🗓 Date: Tuesday, June 3, 2025

🕕 Time: 6:00 PM

📍 Location: McSwain Lecture Hall, Tri-County Community College

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office invites all residents to a critical public meeting aimed at improving law enforcement services and strengthening community trust.

In partnership with the U.S. Department of Justice, the Sheriff’s Office is undergoing a comprehensive self-assessment facilitated by the Bureau of Justice Assistance’s National Training and Technical Assistance Center (NTTAC). This nationwide program connects law enforcement agencies with top public safety and justice professionals to support crime reduction, effective supervision, and victim support.

Two nationally recognized consultants, brought in by NTTAC, are currently in Cherokee County conducting interviews, observing operations, and meeting with stakeholders including:

  • Sheriff’s Office staff
  • Local law enforcement agencies
  • District Attorney’s Office
  • Community Corrections
  • Other justice system partners

But your voice is equally important.

The June 3rd meeting is your chance to speak directly to this process. Whether you have concerns, suggestions, or personal experiences to share, your feedback will play a vital role in shaping a more effective, transparent, and responsive Sheriff’s Office for all residents.

Your input matters. We hope to see you there.

Perfect—here’s your revised trivia night promo with the “everyone feels like Einstein before the first question” reference to match your meme. I tightened things up for flow and kept the humor sharp:

‼️🧠‼️ TONIGHT at 6:30 PM — grab your brightest (or just boldest) friends and join us for “Wait, I Swear I Knew That!” at The Hoppy Trout 🍺🐟 — the trivia night where confidence is sky-high and correct answers are… well, more of a vibe.

Watch closely at 6:25 PM: the room feels like a Mensa meeting. Everyone’s channeling Einstein, nodding sagely, quoting random facts like they’ve got a PhD in Everything. By 6:45? Existential panic over whether a tomato is a fruit, vegetable, or cruel trick of nature.
Kam’s questions are back, which means psychological warfare is on the menu—but she’s not on the mic tonight. Instead, a guest MC will be bravely trying to pronounce ancient minerals, extinct languages, and Olympic sports that haven’t existed since 1904.

Expect:
🍕 Brick oven pizza
🍻 Cold craft beer
🤯 At least one heated debate about Pluto’s planetary status (again)
Bring your most random-fact friend—or that one person who confidently blurts out the wrong answer with the charisma of a TED Talk.
(Yes, Todd, we remember when you declared North Dakota a country. Never forget.)
Prepare for:
• Wild guesses
• Lightly aggressive whisper-fighting
• Fun
🕛 Open at NOON
🕡 Trivia starts at 6:30 sharp
👥 Teams up to 6 (or fewer, if you enjoy pain)
🥇 Prizes for winners, pizza-fueled regret for everyone else

Come down to The Hoppy Trout—where the questions get tougher, the pizza gets hotter, and by Round 3, your inner Einstein has officially left the building. See you soon!

NOAA Weather Radio Outage This Week affecting Southeastern Tennessee and Southwestern North Carolina

The National Weather Service (NWS) in Morristown has announced that several NOAA Weather Radio stations will be offline from Tuesday, May 27 through Friday, May 30 due to important computer system updates.

During this time, the following transmitters will not be broadcasting: • Chattanooga (WXK-48) . Knoxville (WXK-46) • Bristol (WXK-47) . LaFollette (WNG-732)

NWS officials say this is part of a scheduled system patching and maintenance process, and they're encouraging everyone to have multiple ways to receive weather alerts.

"Y"'all remember when our neighbors had their radios down last week? Well, now it's our turn, said the Morristown NWS office in a social media post. “Make sure you have other sources for weather information like apps, local TV and radio, or our updates on the X app.”

While the NOAA radios are down, residents are urged to stay weather aware by using alternative tools such as wireless emergency alerts, weather apps, or checking in with friends and family.

Memorial Day we are open! Come down to the Pub in the heart of Andrews. Regular hours and full menu for your day off!

Virtual Storefronts sponsored Philip Hall Car #47 will not be racing tonight due to rain.

From Tri County Racetrack on Facebook:

"MEMORIAL DAY RACE CANCELED - MONDAY, MAY 26

We're sad to announce that tonight's Memorial Day event at Tri-County Racetrack has been CANCELED due to incoming rain and unsafe conditions at the facility.

With rain expected to move in this evening, spectator parking has become compromised and the scale house area is extremely muddy, making it unsafe for both fans and drivers.

We were truly looking forward to honoring our veterans and racing moms with a night of action and celebration, but safety is always our top priority.

BUT GOOD NEWS - THIS RACE WILL BE MADE UP!

Please stay tuned - we will announce a new makeup date soon!

Thank you for your understanding, and as always, thank you to our veterans for your service. Enjoy your Memorial Day, stay safe, and we'll see you back at the track soon!

📢 Memorial Day Event Canceled 🇺🇸

Due to the forecast calling for storms and rain, the Memorial Day Ceremony scheduled for Monday, May 26 at Konehete Veterans Park has been canceled.

This decision was made out of an abundance of caution to keep everyone safe. Thank you for understanding.

Even though we won’t gather in person, we encourage everyone to take a moment this Memorial Day to honor and remember the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their sacrifice is the reason we enjoy the freedoms we have today. 🇺🇸

Sponsored by American Legion Post 96 – Murphy, NC

Stay safe and dry this Memorial Day.

Memorial Day Ceremony Held at Konehete Park

This Memorial Day, we invite you to pause with us and reflect on the courage, service, and sacrifice of the men and women who gave everything in defense of our nation’s freedom. Cherokee County, NC, stands united in remembrance—honoring those who laid down their lives so we could live ours in peace.

Join locals, visitors, veterans, and families at Konehete Veterans Park for a community gathering dedicated to the true meaning of Memorial Day. The ceremony will be held Monday, May 26th, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. During this hour, we will remember together, honor together, and say thank you—not just with words, but with presence.

Nestled against the quiet strength of our mountains and the waving flag in the field, this event is a chance to carry forward the legacy of those who served. It’s also a time to reconnect, to stand side by side, and to express our shared gratitude.

For more information, see the flyer posted in the comments section of the original Facebook post or visit our official tourism page here on Virtual Storefronts. We look forward to seeing you.

We remember. We honor. We thank you.
